10 of the best: Bondi Beach Foodie Guide

Ask me where to eat in Bondi and I'll give the same answer every time: the best table is one where you can smell the salt and hear the surf. From Sean Moran's dining room above North Bondi to a wood-fired pizza on Hall Street, here's my personal top ten - the places I send hungry friends to.
One honest caveat first: Bondi's food scene moves fast, and hours, menus and prices shift with the seasons. I've linked each venue's own page below - check the details there before you set your heart on a booking. Now, the good stuff.
The special-occasion tables
1. Icebergs Dining Room and Bar
Perched above the ocean pool at the south end, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar is the Bondi view everyone pictures - the pool below, the whole crescent of beach beyond. It's polished Italian, a genuine occasion and one of Bondi's great date-night rooms. Book ahead and dress up; if the budget's tight, come for a drink at the bar and soak up the same view.
2. Sean's
Sean Moran has cooked on this North Bondi corner since 1993, and Sean's is still my sentimental favourite. The menu is short, handwritten and driven by whatever's best that week, much of it from his own farm in the Blue Mountains. It feels less like a restaurant than being fed generously in someone's home.
3. North Bondi Fish
Right on Ramsgate Avenue with the sand at your feet, North Bondi Fish is where I bring visitors who want seafood with a proper beach view. Oysters, whole fish, a crisp glass of white - long lunches here slide happily into the afternoon. It's my pick of Bondi's beachfront and ocean-view tables.
Brunch, pizza and the everyday classics
4. bills, Bondi
Bill Granger's ricotta hotcakes and creamy scrambled eggs more or less wrote the rulebook for Sydney brunch, and the Hall Street bills room is bright, buzzy and reliably lovely. Yes, it's popular; yes, it's worth it - and it still sits near the top of my guide to Bondi's best breakfast and brunch.
5. Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta
Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta is back on Hall Street, now with the little wine bar Orazietto next door. Blistered wood-fired pizza, that legendary porchetta and a properly Italian racket of a room - my go-to for a lively group dinner.
6. Bondi Trattoria
The "Tratt" - Bondi Trattoria - is a Campbell Parade institution: pasta, pizza and people-watching from tables that spill toward the beach. It isn't reinventing anything; it's just a warm, dependable Italian that's fed locals for decades. I love it for an unfussy weeknight spaghetti.
Cafés, casual bites and something sweet
7. Speedos Cafe
Tucked at the quiet north end, Speedos is the classic post-swim café - acai bowls, big breakfasts and a health-leaning menu, steps from the sand near Ben Buckler. Grab a table outside and watch the ocean-pool crowd stroll by. It's one of my favourites among Bondi's best cafés and coffee.
8. Porch and Parlour
Just around the corner, Porch and Parlour has done generous, produce-led breakfasts and lunches for years. It's my pick when I want somewhere calmer than the main drag but still unmistakably North Bondi.
9. Totti's Bondi
The Merivale crowd's Bondi trattoria, Totti's, is all about pillowy wood-fired bread and a table full of Italian sharing plates. A fun, boisterous room - best with friends and no plans for the afternoon.
10. Gelato Messina

Beyond the top ten
Ten is never quite enough in Bondi. When friends want something the list above doesn't cover - a cheap feed after the beach, a cold beer with a crowd, seafood without the white tablecloth - here's where I point them, with the full directory only a tap away.
- Casual seafood: Fish Shop on Hall Street, or the tiny Crabbe Hole wedged beside the Icebergs pool for a coffee and a roll with the swimmers.
