Why we’d go
This is the only hotel sitting directly on the Bondi beachfront with uninterrupted ocean views, and its arched 1914 windows frame the sand better than almost anywhere else on the strip. The dining room reopened in late 2025 as Alzado, a coastal-Spanish restaurant built around just-caught seafood, the plancha and a serious vermouth-and-sherry list, so you get a genuine destination meal rather than a tired hotel menu. Downstairs a beachside public bar and an upstairs club room mean the building carries you from an afternoon aperitivo through to a late night.
What to order
Lean into the plancha and share plates: whole grilled squid or sardines, house-preserved albacore, croquetas, pan con tomate with anchovies, and a sirloin to share with fries — start with an oyster-shell gin martini.
The atmosphere
Sun-washed, holiday coastal-Spain by day; lively and clubby after dark.
Local tip: Book a window or terrace table at Alzado for the golden hour before sunset — that top-floor light off the water is the whole point of being here, and it goes fast in summer.
Worth knowing: It's an elevated, share-style spend with a bar-and-club energy rather than a quiet or especially kid-focused dinner.
