Formerly Lola's Level 1.
Why we’d go
Originally launched in 2021 as Lola's Level 1 by Fratelli Paradiso alumnus Marco Ambrosino and Manny Spinola, the venue has since re-focused as Lola's Italian & Bar, an easygoing pasta parlour with head chef Toby Stansfield (ex-Fabbrica, The Old Fitz) running the kitchen. What sets it apart is the vantage point: a level-one balcony that puts you above the Campbell Parade bustle with a panoramic sweep of the sand and surf, which is a genuinely rare thing on this strip. We'd choose it when you want a proper sit-down Italian meal with a view rather than a casual counter feed, whether that's a long boozy lunch or an intimate dinner.
What to order
Lean into the Italian comfort core: house-made pasta such as spaghetti with vongole, a cotoletta alla Milanese, freshly shucked oysters from the bar, calamari or fritti, and pane pomodoro with cured meats to start. The wine and cocktail list is a genuine strength, so it is worth a pre-dinner drink on the balcony.
The atmosphere
Moody, intimate and design-led, with an easy bar energy that lifts as the evening goes on
Local tip: Book a balcony or window table rather than settling for the interior room, and time a weekend visit for the midday opening when the light over the beach is at its best.
Worth knowing: It is a first-floor room set back above the promenade rather than directly on the sand, and the drinks-heavy, date-night lean makes it a better fit for couples and groups than for families with young kids.
