Restaurant in North Bondi
A Matt Moran seafood restaurant perched at the quiet north end of Bondi Beach, with arguably the best sand-and-ocean outlook of any dining room on the beach.
This is our pick when you want the Bondi beachfront view to do the heavy lifting: it sits right above the sand at the north end, looking straight down the arc of the beach. The kitchen (part of Matt Moran's Solotel group) keeps things coastal and seafood-led — daily sashimi, oysters, whole market fish, fish and chips — in a relaxed, social room that tips into a livelier bar-and-cocktail scene as the day goes on. We'd choose it for a long lunch or sunset drinks over a formal dinner.
Sydney rock oysters, daily sashimi, whole market fish, fish and chips or a fish burger, and one of the margaritas.
Relaxed, sun-lit and social, getting livelier (DJs, cocktails) into the afternoon and evening.
Local tip: Book a table on the outdoor terrace and aim for the golden hour before sunset — the north-end position means the light rakes right across the beach. In winter, note it periodically transforms into "North Bondi Nami," a Japanese izakaya-style pop-up in the same space, so check which menu is running before you go.
Worth knowing: You pay a premium for the position — it's pricier and often busier than the fish-and-chips it's named for, and it can get loud once the bar picks up.
Hours, prices and menus change — always check the venue’s own site before you go. Spotted something out of date? We keep this directory current; details reflect our last check.
