Why we’d go

We'd choose SOY when we want proper Japanese near the beach without the polish-and-price of a fine-diner — it's a genuinely local spot where head chef Jiro Numata (previously at Wasabi in Noosa) works an open kitchen you can watch roll, slice and stir-fry. The BYO nights early in the week make it an easy, good-value catch-up, and being a few steps off Campbell Parade it's an obvious pick after a swim when you want to sit down properly rather than grab-and-go.

What to order

Mixed sashimi and the teriyaki chicken are the house signatures; otherwise lean into the sushi rolls and whatever's coming off the open kitchen.

The atmosphere

Casual, friendly neighbourhood restaurant with a lively open-kitchen counter.

Local tip: Come Monday to Wednesday if you want to bring your own wine — BYO is only offered early in the week (and for smaller tables), so it's the smart booking for a value dinner.

Worth knowing: Despite the Campbell Parade address it's set back in a building rather than beachfront, so come for the food and the BYO value rather than an ocean view.
