Why we’d go

If you're coming straight off the beach and want something hot, filling and cheap without a queue or a booking, this is the kind of honest, open-kitchen Chinese joint that Campbell Parade needs more of. The draw is watching the noodles hand-pulled and the dumplings made to order, then getting a generous plate for well under what the beachfront cafes charge. It won't win on decor, but the portions are big and the turnaround is quick.

What to order

Our pick here is the steamed or pan-fried dumplings by the dozen, and one of the hand-pulled noodle bowls; the sizzling-style beef and fried rice are the other crowd staples.

The atmosphere

Casual, functional and unpretentious, with an open kitchen and quick counter service.

Local tip: Grab it as takeaway and walk it across to the promenade or the grass at the north end of the beach — the dining room is plain, but the view a hundred metres away is the whole point of eating in Bondi.

Worth knowing: The room is plain and can feel busy at peak times, and while a table facing the right way catches a sliver of beach, this is not a view or a fine-dining destination.
