Why we’d go
The Depot has been a genuine local fixture since 2008, and the cooking leans on seasonal produce and its own bakery rather than the see-and-be-seen theatre of the Campbell Parade strip. We'd choose it for an unhurried weekday breakfast or brunch away from the tourist crush, and it's one of the few neighbourhood cafes here that also flips into a proper sit-down bistro dinner later in the week. It reads as a place locals actually return to, not a one-visit photo stop.
What to order
All-day breakfast plates and cafe classics like a halloumi stack or eggs benedict, the in-house bakery goods, and the well-regarded coffee; they're also known for gluten-free pancakes.
The atmosphere
Warm, unpretentious neighbourhood cafe; busy but not frantic
Local tip: It sits a couple of blocks back from the sand on Warners Avenue, so it stays calmer than the beachfront cafes on a busy morning — worth the short walk if you want a table without the wait. Note the dinner service only runs Wednesday to Friday, so book ahead for evenings.
Worth knowing: Off the beachfront with no ocean views, so it's a food-and-coffee destination rather than a spot for a sea outlook.
