Why we’d go
Open since 2010 and recently back after a break, this is a neighbourhood sushi room that leans on produce quality rather than conveyor-belt volume — New Zealand Ora King salmon, Australian king prawns, bluefin tuna and wagyu, all made to order. There's an unusually deep run of gluten-free options and a spread of aburi (torched) nigiri you won't find at the average takeaway counter. We'd choose it for a considered, fish-first sushi dinner a couple of blocks back from the sand.
What to order
Aburi (torched) nigiri and assorted sashimi at chef's choice, inside-out rolls, and the kaisen or wagyu donburi bowls; udon soups for something warmer.
The atmosphere
Low-key neighbourhood sushi spot, unhurried and made to order.
Local tip: It's dinner-focused and closed Mondays, with only a short weekend lunch window — check the current hours before a midday visit, and call ahead for pickup if you're planning to eat on the sand.
Worth knowing: Prices sit above a casual sushi-train — you're paying for premium fish and made-to-order prep — and midweek it's dinner only.
