Why we’d go
This is the North Bondi coffee window locals have crossed the road for since the Bru days - now reborn as Jacks under Jack Murat, who grows his own specialty coffee up in Far North Queensland and pours it beachside here. It is as much a community meeting point as a cafe: ocean-swim groups, cyclists and dog-walkers all cross paths on the footpath out front. We would come for the coffee-and-a-roll ritual, especially the moment you crave most after a North Bondi swim - a hot cup in hand while you dry off in the sun.
What to order
A flat white made with Jacks own Australian-grown single-origin beans; a simple breakfast roll or bowl to take down to the grass.
The atmosphere
Busy, chatty and casual - a footpath community hub with little seating, humming from first light with the post-swim crowd.
Local tip: It is the perfect post-swim stop - grab a coffee straight after a dip at North Bondi and walk it down to the grass or the sand to dry off. There is little seating and it gets packed on weekend mornings, so it is built for grab-and-go rather than a sit-down brunch, and it trades mornings only.
Worth knowing: It's a takeaway window up the hill, not a beachfront brunch spot - no views, minimal seating and no bookings, so it's for grabbing and going rather than lingering.
