Why we’d go
Set on the clifftop at the North Bondi golf course, the Diggers bistro (the "Club House") trades on two things: sweeping coastal views away from the beach crowds, and honest, well-priced cooking that punches above a typical club dining room. The kitchen runs a broad bistro spread across breakfast, lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday, but the real draw is the Sri Lankan curry night on Thursdays that locals genuinely turn up for. We'd choose this when we want a relaxed, family-friendly meal with a view and none of the Campbell Parade markup.
What to order
The Thursday-night Sri Lankan goat curry is the signature; otherwise lean on the bistro seafood and pub classics.
The atmosphere
Casual, slightly retro club dining room; air-conditioned, unpretentious and family-friendly.
Local tip: Come on a Thursday for the curry night and time it with the 4-6pm weekday happy hour, and grab a table toward the windows for the headland views over the coast.
Worth knowing: It's a members' club with dated decor, and the bistro only runs Wednesday to Sunday (bar only Monday-Tuesday), so it's not a spontaneous any-day option.
