Why we’d go
Sonoma has been baking naturally-leavened sourdough since 1998, and this Bondi outpost brings that pedigree a short walk from the sand. We'd choose it for a proper morning coffee and a slab of toasted country sourdough before the beach, or to grab a loaf and a bag of pastries to take home. It trades on bread quality and a calm, unfussy laneway setting rather than a big all-day menu.
What to order
Their signature naturally-leavened sourdough loaves and toast, house-roasted coffee, croissants and the daily pastry selection.
The atmosphere
Relaxed, low-key bakery-cafe in a quiet Gould Street laneway with a few outdoor tables.
Local tip: It's easy to walk past, set back in the Gould Street alley behind Campbell Parade rather than on the beachfront strip, and it closes at 2pm, so make it a morning stop.
Worth knowing: The menu is bakery-focused and fairly compact, and there are no ocean views or reservations, so it's better for a quick, quality bite than a long sit-down.
