Why we’d go

Location is the whole pitch here: you're perched on the Pavilion apron directly above Bondi Beach, which almost no other sit-down kitchen in the precinct can claim. The Beach Bar runs a crowd-pleasing coastal menu of oysters, tuna crudo, wood-fired pizzas and seafood mains that works equally for a casual post-swim lunch or a sunset drinks session, while the newer Etheus dining room (opened September 2025 by House Made Hospitality) takes things upmarket with open-flame Greek meze and charcoal-oven plates. We'd come for the setting first and eat to match the occasion.

What to order

At the Beach Bar, our pick leans to the raw and wood-fired end — oysters, tuna crudo, burrata and a share pizza with a seafood main. At Etheus, the meze do the talking: saganaki, tirokafteri and kataifi-wrapped prawns before something off the charcoal oven.

The atmosphere

Bright, breezy and lively by day; more polished and date-worthy at Etheus after dark.

Local tip: Book the Etheus Verandah or grab a Beach Bar table timed for late afternoon so you're eating as the sun drops behind the Pavilion — the beachfront tables go first, so reserve rather than chancing a walk-in on weekends.

Worth knowing: You pay a clear premium for the beachfront position, and the Beach Bar enforces a 90-minute table turn at busy times, so it's not the spot for a long, lingering lunch.
