Why we’d go

La Piadina has been doing one thing well since 2008: yeast-free flatbread dough made daily on-site, griddled to order and folded around proper Italian fillings rather than the usual Bondi bowls and toast. The space is small and busy, with the kitchen almost spilling into the handful of high tables, so it feels more like a neighbourhood Italian counter than a beach cafe. We'd choose this when you want something genuinely different from the smashed-avo crowd and don't mind eating on the move.

What to order

A savoury piadina (the vegetarian avocado-feta-tomato and pesto-ricotta-eggplant combinations are mainstays), with a coffee and a sweet Nutella or fruit crostata pocket to finish.

The atmosphere

Compact, bustling, casual — polished floorboards and a few high tables squeezed beside an open kitchen.

Local tip: It's up on Glenayr Avenue rather than on Campbell Parade, so it stays calmer than the beachfront spots — grab your piadina to take back down to the sand if the tables are full.

Worth knowing: Seating is very limited and it leans takeaway, so it's not the place for a relaxed sit-down meal with a group.
