Why we’d go

This is one of Bondi's genuine old-timers — a small, candlelit neighbourhood bistro that has quietly outlasted most of the beachfront's churn since 1995. We'd choose it when we want a proper sit-down dinner with warm, personal service rather than a scene, and the BYO policy makes it one of the better-value ways to have a special meal near the beach. The kitchen leans Mediterranean, with Italian and French influences over local seasonal produce.

What to order

Seasonal Mediterranean plates and the house fish pie it's long been known for; the weekend Sunday roast if you're in mid-afternoon.

The atmosphere

Intimate, warm and unhurried — a small dining room plus a newer al fresco area.

Local tip: It's BYO, so bring your own bottle and save on the markup — grab wine from a nearby Bondi bottle shop on the way. The room is small, so book ahead via SevenRooms rather than risk a walk-in.

Worth knowing: It's set back on Curlewis Street with no ocean view, and the room is small, so it's about the food and intimacy rather than the beach scene.
