If you're travelling to Bondi with kids, my honest answer to "where are the best playgrounds?" is that you're spoilt - the two I send every family to are the playground right on the sand at North Bondi and the rocket-ship playground at Waverley Park in Bondi Junction. Between those two, plus a couple of quieter local favourites, you can fill a whole weekend without the kids ever getting bored. Here's how I'd actually plan it.

North Bondi Playground - play with an ocean view
This is the one I send first-timers to: a compact playground tucked into the leafy corner of Biddigal Reserve at the northern end of Bondi Beach, up on the grass off Ramsgate Avenue. The draw here isn't the size of the kit - it's small and geared to younger kids - it's that you can let the little ones play while the surf rolls in behind you. We come with buckets and towels so it doubles as a beach day: playground for a while, then straight down onto the sand.
It sits at the calmer north end, close to the North Bondi kiosks and the start of the coastal walk, so a coffee is never far away. Metered street parking on Ramsgate Avenue is the closest and fills fast on sunny weekends, which is my single biggest tip for this spot.
Waverley Park - the famous rocket ship
If it's blowing a southerly or the kids need more room than the beach allows, we head inland to Waverley Park in Bondi Junction. The centrepiece is a multi-storey rocket ship - a modern rebuild of the beloved 1960s original - surrounded by a jungle gym, swings, musical play and water-play features for hot days. It's a genuine all-ages, all-abilities playground, and crucially for parents of runners, it's fully fenced.
There's a kiosk inside the park for coffee and snacks, public toilets nearby, and huge open lawns for a picnic or a kick of the footy. It's roughly a ten-minute walk from Bondi Junction station and minutes from Westfield, so it's the easy pick if you're arriving by train or want everything in one place.
Quieter local favourites
When we want to dodge the crowds, there are smaller neighbourhood playgrounds worth knowing. Tamarama has a compact, grassy playground a short stroll from its little beach - lovely and low-key for toddlers, with the ocean breeze right there. Bronte Park, one bay further south, pairs a playground with big shady lawns, a saltwater pool and the famous Bronte kiosk, and it's the easiest of the three beaches for parking and picnics.
