25 Reasons Why Sydney is Better Than Melbourne

Let me be upfront: I write this from a towel on Bondi Beach, so I'm about as impartial as a magpie in spring. But if you've ever argued Sydney versus Melbourne over a schooner, here's my honest answer - Sydney wins, and the case starts with the sand between my toes. This is the whole argument in one sentence: Sydney has genuine ocean beaches inside the city, and Melbourne doesn't. I can finish a workday and be swimming between the flags at Bondi within the hour. Manly, Coogee, Bronte, Tamarama - a string of them, each with its own personality, all reachable on a bus, ferry or a good pair of legs. Melbourne's bay beaches are pleasant, but they're not a Pacific swell rolling in under a headland.
