Everyone assumes you have to pay to park at Bondi. You don't - and this is the local trick I pass on to every visiting friend: skip the meters on Campbell Parade and park for free in the residential streets north of Blair Street.

Blair Street sits at the northern end of Bondi, near the corner of Warners Avenue, where the land begins to climb toward Ben Buckler - the headland at the top of Bondi Bay. Punch "Blair Street" into your maps app, then head north and uphill, away from the water, and start looking. On the quieter blocks up here the parking is free and unrestricted around the clock: no meters, no time limits. The rule that actually works is not a street name but a direction - keep going north until the restriction signs stop, then park. What is unrestricted on one block can be permit-only on the next, which is why I won't hand you a fixed list of "free streets": Waverley Council keeps extending its permit zones, and a list like that is wrong the moment it is published. The trade-off is the walk, and it is a modest one - roughly five to seven minutes down to the sand, downhill on the way there.
On weekdays there are spaces until late afternoon, when residents start arriving home from work. Weekends are busier, but the constant coming and going means a patient loop of the block usually turns something up - much more easily if you're early. Two things widen your odds on a bad day. The first is the southern end: almost everyone aims for the middle of the beach, so the blocks back from the south end and around the Beach Road Hotel often have room when North Bondi is chaos. The second is simply arriving later than everyone else - the council's beachfront meters run 7am to 7pm seven days a week and switch off after 7pm, so an evening swim is the one time the bays right behind the sand cost nothing at all.
